The Gap Between Mobile and Desktop – Diagnostic Signal

Mobile CR doesn’t have to match the desktop, but the big and steady gap is worth sorting out. Especially if the source is mainly mobile: a small technical loss turns into a noticeable cost of FTD.

Check on a real device.

DevTools is useful, but does not replace the phone. On the real device, the keyboard, autocomplete, the behavior of the browser panel, system dialogues and random overlapping of elements appear.

Checklist of the first screen

  • the header is placed without ridiculous circumcision;
  • CTA is visible and pressed;
  • the image does not shift the content after downloading;
  • No horizontal scrolling.
  • the font is read without enlargement;
  • The menu doesn't cover the screen.

Forms

The field of the phone should call a suitable keyboard, email - email keyboard. The error should explain what to fix, not just highlight the field in red. If the form is cleared after an error, you lose users for a technical reason.

Page speed and weight

Do not optimize only the final score of the test. See what the user sees first. A large hero image, heavy font, or blocking script may delay the main action. A decorative loader that artificially keeps the page closed doesn’t create value either.

Priority of corrections

First, fix what breaks the action: clickability, shape, redirect, first screen speed. Only then does it make sense to polish the visual details.

This logic is also applied in the LuckyBear Partners update: the artificial two-second screensaver has been removed so that content can be accessed immediately.

Check the unstable network.

A page that performs well on office Wi-Fi can be heavy on a mobile network. Limit the speed in the developer tools and then check the real phone out of Wi-Fi. It is important not only the full load, but also the time before the appearance of an understandable first action.

Remove artificial delays

The screensaver, which keeps the interface closed for two seconds "for beauty," adds time without benefit. Animations can remain a part of the visual style, but the main content is rateter shown immediately and does not block interaction.

Post-release controls

After any major edits to the mobile page, compare the CR by browser. Sometimes the change works in Chrome, but creates a problem in Safari or the app’s built-in browser.

Interface errors that are expensive

Particularly carefully check the sticky elements: header, CTA and cookie / banner blocks. On a small screen, a few fixed elements can take up half the height and close the shape, although a designer on a desktop won't see it.

Check the real size of the CTA

The button may be visible, but is inconvenient to press because of the small active area or adjacent elements. On mobile, not only the design pixels are important, but also the actual touch zone.

Stability is more important than spectacular animation

If animation shifts content, overlaps form, or delays the appearance of a button, it works against conversion. Motion should support the interface, not compete with the main action.

Browser error logs

If possible, collect anonymized JavaScript error statistics. A rare bug that affects 3% of mobile sessions may not be noticeable on a manual test, but is noticeable on a large volume.
