Relinking is navigation, not the distribution of “weight” according to the formula
The user needs to know where to go next. If he’s reading about CPA, the natural next steps are KPI, RevShare comparison, economics calculator, and startup terms. The link to a random article about creativity is weaker at this point.
Three types of internal relationships
- Vertical: article → Main page of the topic.
- Horizontal: article → close article of the same cluster.
- Functional: Theory → calculator, checklist or contact form.
Example of RevShare cluster
| Page | Where does it make sense to refer |
|---|---|
| /revshare/ | NGR, carryover, Hybrid, calculator |
| NGR | /revshare/, carryover, tools |
| carryover | NGR, /revshare/ |
| tools | /revshare/, /hybrid/ |
anchors
Anchor should describe the purpose of the link. "Details" are permissible in the card, where the context is obvious, but inside the article it is better to write "NGR formula" or "RevShare calculator".
Don’t create a link for the sake of a link
A hundred links in footer does not replace context. The most useful links are next to the question they continue.
Automatic unit related
If related materials are generated automatically, use at least the category and proximity of the topic. Sorting simply by date often yields a random set.
At LuckyBear Partners, a block of related materials now considers the category and author first, rather than taking the first five articles from the total array.
Checking old pages
Once every few months, it’s helpful to find pages with no inbound internal links and articles that link to outdated URLs. If the URL is combined through 301, it is still better to update the internal link immediately to the final address.
Create a map of the central URL
For each cluster, assign 1-3 main pages. All new articles must either reinforce one or have a clear reason to exist separately. This prevents a situation in which ten articles compete for the role of “main”.
Links from commercial pages are also important.
Relinking doesn’t just have to work from blog to money. A user on the RevShare page might want a detailed NGR parsing, and on the GEO page, material on localization. Such links make the commercial section more useful and spread the context in both directions.
Check the clickability
If a contextual link is almost never used, it may be standing in the wrong place or not answering the natural next question. Data on internal transitions can help improve the structure without adding new pages.
Old URLs
After 301, leave the redirect for a long time, but inside the site, update the link to the final URL. Redirect chains impair navigation and complicate support.
Breadcrumbs and structure
Breadcrumb helps the user understand the level of the page, especially in a large blog. For a site with authors and thematic materials, stable paths are also useful /articles/ and /authors/It's not a collection of disparate files.
Don’t just hide important pages in a sitemap.
If a URL is really important, it should be a normal internal link from the navigation, thematic section, or content. Sitemap helps to discover, but does not replace the architecture of the site.
Anchor audit
Download internal links and see if dozens of different anchors are being used for the same entity for no reason. Consistency helps the search engine and the person understand the role of the page.
